Archaeology Collections Graduate Assistant
Position Description
This position represents a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in the logistics and implementation of moving museum collections. Under the supervision and training of curation and collections staff, the GA will assist in returning the archaeology collections and research laboratory to the newly renovated IUMAA facility. Duties may include tracking and moving collections, equipment, and supplies; unpacking and organizing artifacts and archival records; inventorying, researching, and cataloging collections; and building storage containers and drawer mounts for rehousing. Other tasks may include facilitating exhibit preparations, digitization, environmental monitoring, and other collections management and curation activities. The GA may also assist with the supervision and training of hourly staff or students as needed. The position may require training and operation of a hydraulic lift as well as frequent lifting and moving of collection boxes, equipment, and other furniture (ability to lift up to 50 pounds).
Eligibility
Indiana University graduate students must be enrolled full time. Graduate students in Archaeology, Anthropology, Curatorship, Information & Library Science, and related disciplines are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have very good organizational skills, work ethic, and the ability to accurately record data.
Compensation
Compensation is stipend disbursed and health insurance coverage. The position requires a 20-hour per week employment commitment. No fee remission is available for this position.
