Love and Resilience: Queer Memories from Costa Rica
Location: William Mathers Gallery
Opening: February 12, 2027
Guest Curators: Eunice Báez Sánchez and Óscar Jimenez Alvarado
Through more than four decades of queer magazines, photographs, and personal testimonies, Love and Resilience: Queer Memories from Costa Rica presents a portrait of LGBTQ+ life and activism in Costa Rica from the 1980s to the present. Curated and presented in partnership with the Museo de la Identidad y el Orgullo and the Communication Research Center at the University of Costa Rica, the exhibition pairs historical records with contemporary retellings to show how Costa Rican queer communities have turned love, joy, and collective gathering into vital sources of survival and belonging. Visitors are invited to explore personal stories of queer visibility and joy and to consider how spaces of celebration and care can serve as powerful sources of hope and resilience.
